New York Comic Con 2026: 20 Years of Fandom, Creativity, and Community

From October 8–11, 2026, thousands of fans, creators, cosplayers, and industry professionals gathered at the Javits Center in New York City to celebrate the 20th anniversary of New York Comic Con. For four incredible days, the convention once again transformed the city into a celebration of pop culture, creativity, and fandom.
This year marked Creative Cosplays Magazine's fourth year being invited to participate in NYCC, but things were a little different this time around. Rather than hosting our own booth, we were invited back as guests in the new Cosplay Central space inside the Javits Center. Throughout the weekend, the space featured scheduled appearances by cosplay guests, including members of our own community on Friday and Saturday. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow creators, reconnect with familiar faces, and introduce new people to Creative Cosplays Magazine.
Of course, being part of the event was only half the fun. The rest of my time was spent doing what I always enjoy most at conventions: exploring, taking photos, and seeing just how much creativity can be packed into one building.
And at New York Comic Con, there's certainly no shortage of things to see.
Walking through the massive show floor, it was hard not to be impressed by the elaborate displays, exhibits, and experiences created by some of the biggest names in entertainment. Companies like Marvel and DC helped bring their worlds to life through eye-catching installations, while countless vendors filled the large space offering everything from collectibles and merchandise to comics and artwork.
Artist Alley was another highlight, filled with incredibly talented artists displaying their work, meeting fans, and sharing their passion for their craft. Add in the celebrity guests, panels, and special appearances happening throughout the weekend, and there was always something exciting around every corner.
But for me, one of the best parts of any convention is the people.
With the crowds seemingly growing larger every year, attending NYCC has started to feel like participating in the world's largest game of Where's Waldo? I spend a good portion of every convention trying to track down friends, fellow creators, and familiar faces scattered throughout the building. Sometimes you spot someone across a crowded aisle, only to lose them seconds later in a sea of thousands of people. Other times, you unexpectedly run into someone you haven't seen since the previous year's convention.
And then, of course, there are the cosplayers.
Everywhere you looked, there were amazing costumes representing just about every corner of pop culture imaginable. From detailed armor builds and elaborate props to creative interpretations of beloved characters, the craftsmanship and dedication on display never failed to impress. Scheduled meetups of various fandoms helps to bring together large groups for special photo opportunities.
Photographers could be found throughout the convention, setting up shots and capturing the incredible work of these talented creators. I spent plenty of time photographing cosplayers myself (with my phone), constantly finding new costumes that made me stop and reach for my camera.
Taking Cosplay to Times Square
One of the most memorable experiences of the weekend actually happened outside the convention center.
On Friday night, Creative Cosplays Magazine helped organize a large cosplay meetup in Times Square in partnership with local NY photographer @Nycosplayer.
With the colorful lights, massive digital billboards, and energy of New York City surrounding us, Times Square became the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable gathering of cosplayers and photographers.
The turnout was fantastic, with tons of creators coming together to socialize, pose for photos, record videos, and show off their costumes against one of the most recognizable cityscapes in the world. Everywhere you looked, cameras were flashing, costumes were glowing beneath the lights, and groups of friends were making memories together.
It was a great reminder that the cosplay community doesn't stop at the convention doors. Sometimes the most memorable moments happen when everyone comes together simply because they share a love for what they do.
The Convention Family Reunion
As exciting as conventions like NYCC can be, there's another side to the experience that anyone who's attended a major four-day event knows all too well.
By the third and fourth days, the excitement starts competing with exhaustion.
After several long days of very little sleep, questionable eating schedules, hours spent inside costumes, endless walking, and navigating crowded convention halls, just about everyone is running on whatever energy they have left. Your feet hurt, your body aches, and the idea of sitting down for more than five minutes starts sounding better than just about anything else.
Yet somehow, we keep doing it year after year.
Because beyond the exhibits, celebrities, merchandise, and incredible costumes, conventions like New York Comic Con have become something much more meaningful. They're like a giant annual family reunion.
They're a chance to reconnect with friends who live across the country, finally meet people we've only known through social media, celebrate each other's creativity, and spend a few days surrounded by people who understand our shared passions.
For Creative Cosplays Magazine, that's what makes these events so special. Our publication has always been about showcasing talented creators and bringing the community together, and weekends like this are a perfect reminder of why we started.
As New York Comic Con celebrated 20 years of bringing fandoms together, we were grateful to be part of that experience for the fourth year in a row.
And despite the sore feet, lack of sleep, and inevitable post-convention recovery period, I can confidently say it was all worth it.
Until next year, NYCC!
