Big news is finally here! 🎉 After weeks of planning, conversations, and dreaming a little bigger than usual, we’re officially announcing The Cosplay Awards — a brand-new awards ceremony built to celebrate the creativity, talent, and impact of the cosplay community.

This isn’t just another cosplay contest you'd find at a convention. Nope! It’s not about walking a stage or being judged in real-time. The Cosplay Awards is designed like a true awards show — focused on recognition, storytelling, and giving creators their moment. Let’s break down what this is, why it exists, and what you can expect!

What Are The Cosplay Awards?

The Cosplay Awards is an annual awards ceremony created to honor cosplayers, photographers, digital artists, crafters, makers, and community leaders across the fandom space. It’s a place to recognize not just finished costumes, but the hard work, dedication, and creativity behind them and those who created them.

For its first year, the ceremony will premiere as a professionally produced virtual broadcast. This allows us to focus on quality, presentation, and storytelling — while making the show accessible to the entire community, no matter where you live!

Why Create The Cosplay Awards?

Cosplay has grown into something massive! It’s art, performance, craftsmanship, ingenuity, photography, and community! Yet, there hasn’t really been a dedicated awards show built for cosplay, designed with the same structure and respect you’d expect from film, music, or gaming awards ceremonies.

The Cosplay Awards exists to change that! This is about giving creators recognition that feels meaningful. It’s about slowing things down and saying, “This work matters.” It’s about spotlighting people who inspire others, push boundaries, and elevate the community as a whole!

Who’s Behind It?

The Cosplay Awards was created by Creative Cosplays Magazine, a publication dedicated to showcasing the creativity, talent, and stories of the cosplay community. Since 2019, Creative Cosplays Magazine has featured cosplayers, photographers, artists, makers, and creators from around the world through interviews, publications, events, and community initiatives.

The Cosplay Awards was created as an extension of that mission: to recognize outstanding contributions across the cosplay community and provide creators with a platform to celebrate their work and achievements.

Our goal is simple — create an annual celebration that highlights the passion, craftsmanship, creativity, photography, performance, and community spirit that make cosplay such a unique and inspiring art form.

How Does It Work?

The Cosplay Awards follows a multi-stage process designed to balance community participation with professional evaluation.

Community Nominations open first, allowing community members to submit deserving individuals, groups, and creative projects across the available award categories.
Once nominations close, Community Voting begins. Fans, creators, and supporters cast votes for their favorite nominees across all categories.
After voting concludes, the Top 5 nominees with the most votes in each category advance as finalists.
The finalists then move on to the Judge Voting Round, where a panel of experienced cosplayers, photographers, creators, and community leaders reviews finalist submissions, showcased work, and category-relevant achievements. Each judge assigns a score to every finalist based on criteria relevant to that category.
Scores from all judges are combined to determine the winner of each award.

Winners will be revealed during The Cosplay Awards broadcast later this year.

What Can You Expect in Year One?

The inaugural year of The Cosplay Awards is focused on recognizing and celebrating the creativity, talent, and contributions of creators throughout the cosplay community.

This year's awards will feature community nominations, public voting, finalist recognition, judge evaluations, and winner announcements across a variety of categories representing different areas of the cosplay world.

Rather than centering the experience around a single awards-show broadcast, The Cosplay Awards will be presented through a combination of online content, social media features, website showcases, and a dedicated awards magazine issue.

Throughout the season, nominees, finalists, judges, and winners will be highlighted and celebrated, providing lasting recognition beyond a single event.

This approach allows us to focus on community engagement, creator visibility, and building a strong foundation for the future growth of The Cosplay Awards as an annual tradition.

The Cozzy is a custom-designed trophy created specifically for this event. It represents creativity, transformation, and the many layers that make cosplay what it is. More than just a trophy, it’s meant to be a keepsake — something winners can proudly display as a marker of their impact on the community.

But that's not the ONLY award that will be given out! There may be plans for an additional special Creative Cosplays award in the making as well!

The Long-Term Vision

The Cosplay Awards isn’t a one-off event. The long-term goal is to grow this into a respected annual tradition — one that evolves alongside the community. Future years may expand categories, introduce in-person elements, feature live audiences, and bring creators together in new ways.

But no matter how it grows, the heart of the show stays the same: recognizing creativity, effort, and community impact!
